Choose your teacher safely

It is important to note that, as with all new meetings with a stranger, you should take the same precautions you would in any situation.

• Always telephone and speak to a prospective teacher prior to meeting them.
• Ask if they have any teaching references or if you are able to speak with a current student.
• When arranging for lessons for a child, ask if you can attend the lessons.
• If seeking adult music lessons, ask if you may bring a friend with you.

Most responsible teachers will not object to any of the above questions being asked of them.

Never leave a child with a stranger unless you are certain that you feel it is appropriate!
